BST PRO MARK® INTRODUCES TWO NEW LASER BAR CODE VERIFICATION SYSTEMS
In-Line Bar Code Verification At A Reasonable Price Is Now Available
BST Pro Mark has introduced two new laser bar code verification systems, the LS100 and the LS200. Both systems were designed to meet the converting markets need for in-line bar code verification and reporting at a reasonable price. The LS100 sells for $ 6,995 and the LS200 for under $10,000, heretofore unheard of price points for such advanced technology.
The new products were designed for verification of bar codes produced via flexo, gravure, offset, ion deposition, thermal or digital printing. They perform 100 percent inspection in real time at full press speed, identifying bar code quality problems as they develop. When quality falls below user-defined levels, warning lights trigger an alarm or even an ink jet printer to mark the bad codes.
Unlike other quality attributes, bar code print quality can change dramatically and within a very short period of time.
For example, changing impression setting can change bar code overall value from A grades to F grades, in seconds.
On line bar code verification is the only way to insure that all bar codes in a roll meet acceptable quality standards.
Because they produce audit trails and calibrate to a known standard, the LS200 and LS300 systems readily conform to TQM or ISO9000 quality systems. Both systems verify bar codes to ANSI X3.182 and ISO 15416, the internationally accepted standards for bar code quality, and conform with ISO 15426, the international standard for bar code verification devices.
LS100 BAR CODE VERIFICATION SYSTEM
The LS100 is a completely integrated inspection device, easy to use and entirely user installable. Each unit comes with a laser scanner, red-green alarm tree, traverse for mounting the scan head, calibration plaque and integrated calibration software – everything needed to be up and running fast. The LS100 is intended as a cost effective alternative to hand held verifiers, with the substantial advantage that it performs 100% inspection, in-line and in real time.
The bar code types supported by the LS100 include:
- UPC A & E, EAN 8 & 13 including 2 and 5 digit supplemental codes
- Generic (ANSI traditional) Interleaved 2 of 5
- SCC-14 (I 2/5) Shipping Container Symbol
- Generic (ANSI Traditional) Code 39 plus mod 43 check character; AIAG, LOGMARS, and HIBC Formats
- Generic (ANSI Traditional) Code 128
- SCC-14 (UCC/EAN 128) Shipping Container Symbol
- Codabar Variant
- Code 93

LS200 BAR CODE VERIFICATION & REPORTING SYSTEM
The LS200 system integrates multiple scan heads, a comprehensive reporting function and optional software for managing sequential bar codes.
The LS200 uses a laser with a speed of 600 scans per second capable of reading an eight inch bar code, and includes up to eight laser scanners, a PC, 17” monitor, keyboard, mouse, internal modem with remote service support, alarm tree, calibration chart, scan head traverse and all the necessary software. The LS200 also has a scan head mount that can be oriented to either ladder or picket fence in seconds without the use of tools. The system is by design, entirely user installable.

The software package includes a powerful set of reports, calibration plaque, system calibration automatically managed by the software and offline troubleshooting tools.
• Over 35 Online and Offline Viewable Reports
• Over 60 Printable Reports including…
- Certificates Of Compliance
- ISO/ANSI Grade
- Job name/number/start time/stop time
- Average bar deviation
- Individual bar and space measurements
- Bar code type, orientation
- Calibration date

The LS200 has an optional Touch Screen Interface.
Also optional is the Sequential Database Manager, a powerful tool for managing sequential bar codes. This function allows the system to verify 100% of sequential bar codes and will report all missing, duplicate and out of sequence bar codes. The reporting function is capable of printing of a wide range of reports and sequentially numbered carton and pallet labels.
These two new systems round out the BST Pro Mark laser bar code product line, which is now comprised of four different systems: LS100, LS200, LS300 and the DM400.
The LS series systems are used for bar code inspection on printing presses and rewinders, while the DM series systems are used for bar code inspection and verificatIon on high speed slitters, rewinders or presses, and are equally effective for filling machines.
BST Pro Mark also supplies custom solutions for customers with more complex or sophisticated verification needs. The company has designed and installed systems to track hundreds of millions of sequential bar codes, verifying each roll, box, pallet and job – and accounting for every single bar code produced, with zero tolerance.
The new LS100 and LS200 laser bar code verification systems will be featured during the Label Expo trade show at BST Pro Mark’s booth, # 1511, and will be officially introduced to the North American market at a press conference on Tuesday, September 14, at 11:00 AM. |
